Pronunciation: \ˌkä-lə-ˈnād\
Etymology: French, from Italian colonnato, from colonna column
In Classical architecture, a long sequence of columns joined by their entablature, often freestanding.

Illustrated here is the Ionic column surmounted by a capital with spiral coils on each side; the column shaft usually has more flutes and is more slender than the Doric column, and it has a decorative base.

Colonnade seen on the south facade of the Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois. Photo taken September 27, 2009.
