300 Photos

Posted by

Now that I have been here this long, it's the ideal time to pose a question to fellow "Aminus3ers" since I have not been able to find out for myself....

Does anyone know what the "unique views" counter refers to? (Only visible on your own blog)

Congrats on your #300. As for your question, I think it refers to unique views, as in it counts me once. If I return, it doesn't count me again? I'm guessing, though.

@Viewfinder: That's what I thought as well. But there are times when the number of comments left outnumber the number of "unique views." You would think that the number of "unique views" would at least equal the number of comments. So then I thought that "unique views" were perhaps views by Aminus3 members who don't have me on their blog roll??

happy 300, see you on 600, I agree with viewfinder

Hi Steven - congrats on 300 posts !

Unique Views is a counter on how many people view your post (and is unique meaning it will not count the same IP address twice). Also note this number does not always update in real time and may show a cached number of views until the cache is refreshed.

Wonderful shot to celebrate your number 300!!! Way to go.
I agree with the above comments - if I come back to look again, it will not count anything after the first.

Steven, the unique views counter is a counter that gets an ip address ( Internet Protocol) from a visitor's (even your) web browser or router. This is a unique identifier for everyone who uses the internet and is transmitted as part of the information used in communication between two networked computers and/or devices. It seems that the counter on aminus3 uses the ip address of your broadband router if you have one and if you disconnect and are reassigned an new address via the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) then visit your site again, you will be counted as yet another unique viewer. If you will notice, the first unique viewer every time is you... I hope some of this made sense to you.
