Eye on Chicago

Posted by
Steven (Chicagoland, United States) on 1 October 2010 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

Oak Park, Illinois artist Tony Tasset designed this three-story eyeball after the sphere in his own socket. Aptly titled, "EYE", this massive replica of Tony's own eye sits in Pritzker Park at Van Buren and State Street in Chicago, casting a menacing gaze at anybody who dares walk past. Made of steel-reinforced fiberglass, the piece was built by F.A.S.T. Corp. of Sparta, Wisconsin.

After putting my watermark on this photo, I noticed how eerily similar the position of the iris is in comparison to where the iris was captured in this photograph.

Photo captured on August 6, 2010.

Isn't that the weirdest damn thing! I saw that about a month ago and had to get out of the car to shoot it. This of course with my daughter's camera. She stole my photos of it! I think my next accomplishment will be getting some kind of statue set up in Chicago.. :D Want to join me?

Amazing piece of art. I'd be curious how many have complained, there would be some.
Hilarious coincidence to the angle you shot the eye to your logo signature.
I've been wanting to get to Chicage to see the bean, now I need to add the eye to that list.
Nice shot.
