This intersectional peony is a hybrid of the herbaceous peony and tree peony. The tree peony has woody above ground stems that remain throughout the year, much like a small shrub. The leaves, however, are deciduous and fall each autumn. Herbaceous peonies die back to the ground each autumn. The petals, of course, are like the petals of a magnolia bloom.........they practically disappear after the first rain. :-(
