The interior of the Washington Island Stavkirke. The church was not open, so the only view into the church is through a small glass window at the entrance, which you see here. There were wood columns in the way, so I cropped this image from the sides to eliminate their dominating presence. Not until I cropped the image did I notice the details in the cross timbers. I also put the camera lens up to the window and fired without a flash.
Around 5,000 people visit the Stavkirke annually. During the summer, there is a weekly Wednesday service that is held in the building. Both weddings and baptisms are held at the building through requests.
