Inside the Lavender Drying Barn

Posted by
Steven (Chicagoland, United States) on 18 November 2020 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

The Island Lavender Company is located in the heart of Washington Island at the Historic Island Dairy, where acres and acres of lavender fields are farmed and handmade lavender products are produced. The Island Lavender Company carefully harvests each bundle of lavender during the "Blooming Season" from July through mid-August. Each bundle is gently dried in their aged wooden lavender drying barns to protect the vibrant colors and aromatic scent of the fresh cut lavender.

Here you see lavender hanging in the drying barn.

A beautiful capture of the drying lavender. I've seen chili's being dried in a similar fashion in the southwest.

I've seen the end product, Steven, but I've never seen it hanging in a barn (or anywhere) like this. Garlic, yes, but not lavender. How lovely.

I have always associated lavender with blue or violet ... seeing them as white, I think this is the first time.
But I also had never seen lavender drying...

Very interesting information but also to see how they hang all that lavender -- looks very efficient but also love those lines. That was a clever way to frame it by including the beam at the top.
