An isolated oak stands alone,
A stalwart figure, made of stone.
With branches bare and leaves long gone,
It stands amidst the snow alone.
Its limbs may creak, its bark may crack,
But still, it stands against the attack.
For it knows that winter’s cold embrace,
Will soon give way to spring’s warm face.
And though it stands in isolation,
Its beauty shines with pure elation.
For in the snow, the oak tree shows,
That even in winter, beauty grows.
A blanket of snow covers the picnic tables at one of the picnic venues of Van Patten Woods in Wadsworth, Illinois, only days before a two-day, 54-degree heat wave that eliminated all signs of this winterscape. This towering oak tree with its dense network of branches serves as an anchor at this site.
